Tiako University operates on an academic semester system with the following revolving student-centric calendar.
- Each academic year
consists of two cycles of overlapping semesters
- Each cycle has
three regular semesters (fall, spring and summer)
- Each semester
consists of sixteen (16) weeks of education and research
- Each semester can
have classes scheduled in (a) its full length of sixteen (16) weeks or (b) two
(2) terms of eight (8) weeks each
- Each term can
also have classes scheduled in (a) its full length of eight (8) weeks or two (2)
sessions of four (4) weeks each.
We define the academic year as a period of time in which a full-time student is expected to complete a minimum of 32 credits within at least two semesters of instruction out of the semesters available in the two yearly cycles.
The calendar of an individual Tiako’s student or learner is defined based on his/her (a) initial enrollment date or on the date studies are resumed following withdrawal from the University, and (b) degree/diploma/certificate seeking program and courses scheduling. Before a student or learner starts courses, he/she must be assigned a Student Centric Period (SCP) defining semester cycles, terms and sessions involved in his/her academic calendar. Academic processes are conducted in sessions, terms and semesters.
The following table assigns the months of the year to each of the two semester cycle proposed.
