Program Description
The Administrative Medical Assistants work in medical settings as receptionists, appointment clerks, surgery schedulers, authorization coordinators, file clerks, medical records clerks, insurance billers, reimbursement specialists, medical coders, accounts receivable clerks, patient advocates and collection clerks.
Work Places
Work places include physicians’ offices, medical centers, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes ambulatory care centers, and medical billing offices. The specific duties of the administrative medical assistant will often vary from office to office due to office size, location, and specialty.
Professional Preparation
Job responsibilities may include contacting medical facilities to schedule patients for tests and admissions; explaining treatment, procedures, medications, diets and physicians’ instructions to patients; clarifying insurance questions; maintaining financial records; handling credit and collections; mailing statements to patients; and coordinating the medical insurance billing process.
