Program Description
Healthcare professionals rely on medical transcriptionists to transcribe their dictated recordings into medical reports and other materials. The objective of the Medical Transcription program is to train students to acquire the necessary medical knowledge and demonstrate competence in utilizing transcription equipment to prepare reports.
Work Places
Work places include physicians’ offices, medical centers, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and medical billing offices. The specific duties of the medical transcriptionist will often vary from office to office due to office size, location, and specialty.
Professional Preparation
Job responsibilities may include: accurately transcribes the patient-identifying information such as name and medical record or social security number; transcribes accurately, utilizing correct punctuation, grammar and spelling, and edits for inconsistencies; maintains/consults references for medical procedures and terminology.
